'ITR last date' is one of the most searched phrases in India every summer, usually at 11 pm on the deadline day itself. Save yourself that panic. Here is the full calendar.
The dates for AY 2026-27
- ✓31 July 2026: due date for most individuals (no audit required)
- ✓31 October 2026: businesses requiring audit
- ✓31 December 2026: last date for belated and revised returns
The government has extended the July date in some years, but treating an extension as guaranteed is how people end up filing at midnight. File early and your refund also arrives weeks sooner.
What missing the deadline costs
A belated return comes with a late fee under Section 234F: Rs 5,000 if your income is above Rs 5 lakh, Rs 1,000 if below. You also pay interest on any unpaid tax, you cannot carry forward most losses, and if you miss even the December date you may need the special ITR-U route with extra tax.
Other dates worth a calendar reminder
Advance tax instalments fall on 15 June, 15 September, 15 December and 15 March. Employers issue Form 16 by 15 June. And e-verification must happen within 30 days of filing your return, which people forget more often than the filing itself.
File with Saathi.Tax and we handle the reminders: deadline alerts, e-verification nudges and refund tracking, so no date sneaks up on you again.
